Kira & Tyler’s Gothic Wedding at Catalpa Grove at lakewood park

Are you searching for a venue that marries the cozy, mysterious charm of a woodland lodge with the elegance and convenience of a grand banquet hall? Catalpa Grove at Lakewood Park is that rare, perfect blend. Picture towering trees framing a secluded grove, rustic charm at every turn, and then step inside a beautifully appointed hall where high ceilings, warm lighting, and tasteful details set the scene for an unforgettable celebration.

Kira and Tyler brought their alternative, gothic-leaning style to life here—dark romantic touches, personal flair, and unconventional details that felt utterly true to them—while the surrounding lakeside landscape and wooded vistas gave the day a grounded, homey atmosphere. The result was a wedding that felt equal parts intimate forest escape and refined reception: dramatic yet welcoming, otherworldly yet comfortable, and absolutely theirs. Whether you crave moody romance or a nature-steeped celebration with a polished finish, Catalpa Grove delivers both the aesthetic and the experience.

Their outdoor ceremony unfolded on a stunning patio anchored by a large, picturesque arbor — the perfect frame for Kira and Tyler as they exchanged vows. The arbor made an unforgettable statement, allowing us to layer voluminous, lush floral installations that cascaded and curled around its structure, creating an enchanted, slightly wild canopy. A tied-back black drape threaded through the design amplified the couple’s gothic sensibility, adding depth and drama while balancing the softness of the blooms.

One of my favorite details from the day were the pocket square boutonnieres — tiny, secret gardens tucked into each suit jacket pocket. These miniature arrangements echoed the ceremony’s larger floral language while offering a charming, wearable touch that felt intimate and whimsical.

Scattered through the décor were meaningful personal accents: black feathers that whispered of mystery, trailing amaranthus that spilled like dark, romantic vines, and gleaming disco balls. The disco balls were a tender homage to Kira’s father, who passed away a few months before the wedding; their reflective surfaces caught the light and felt like little shimmering winks, a joyful, luminous remembrance woven into the celebration.

Little touches like these — intimate tokens, unexpected nods, and carefully chosen textures — are exactly why I love creating florals for clients who want to weave small pieces of themselves into their special day, turning memories and personalities into living, breathing art.
